Walking into any Mary’s is an act of stepping out of the chaos of daily life and into Mary’s comfortable home.
Founded in 1982 by fourteen choruses, GALA Choruses has become the only national association of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and allied choruses. The mission of GALA Choruses is to change our world through song. By fostering the artistic and organizational development of member choruses through a wide variety of programs and services, GALA Choruses produces choral festivals, educational conferences and several publications. We engage in advocacy; provide grants for the commissioning of new choral works; facilitate networking within the Association; and serve as a resource center for choruses and individual Associates from around the world.
Since its inception GALA Choruses has produced six international festivals, provided more than $42,000 in matching grants for commissioned works and has provided more than 25 conferences and vocal training workshops. GALA Choruses supports more than 180 choruses singing to audiences totaling more than one million individuals. The Arts Council supports and promotes arts and culture in Hillsborough County. It provides grants and workshops for organizations and individual artists; contracts arts and cultural groups for arts-in-education programs; hosts an online calendar of arts events; and works to promote lifelong learning and cultural enrichment to benefit citizens of Hillsborough County. The Arts Council is governed by a 15-member board of directors appointed by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
